Sun & Moon Align: Big Love Meetup Membership Eclipses 50 In 3 Days!
It felt like a timely, if not celestial, transit. So, we launched the Big Love Meetup site this past Friday. The response has been encouraging and uplifting — as we eclipsed 50 members about the time Monday’s “Totality” first crossed Oregon’s Pacific coastline.
Putting another public face forward for Big Love via Meetup was actually a helpful process. It caused us to do our best to articulate a concise description of what our initial “Gatherings” will feature. Here’s our summary, as it appears on the description page of the Big Love Meetup website:

Big Love — Inspiring and Empowering the Passion, the Freedom, and the Courage To Live As Love
We invite you to explore Big Love, a fresh, new, inclusive “Community of Practice” attracting like-minded, like-hearted people who share a passion for developing and living Universal Truths common to all peoples and all of creation.
Big Love embraces two main themes: “Personal Spirituality” and “Authentic Living”. Our vision is to help ourselves and others live more “spiritfully” and “holistically”— every day in every way.
Big Love creates and applies practices, methods, and disciplines that are celebratory, mutually supportive, and make a difference — for each of us and all of creation.
Big Love promotes ideas that call the world and all its component parts to higher levels of consciousness that are reflected in, and by, loving action. As spiritual activists we continually practice co-creating more love, peace, justice, equity, and sustainability for all creation.
The more we do these things, the more we will be “Living TA-DA! Today”…. and that’s what Big Love is all about!

The more we think about Big Love, the clearer it becomes that the approach we are taking represents a distinct and definitive break with the paths that most religious traditions have followed. Where they have focused on “the-here-after” (whether “salvation” or “enlightenment”) Big Love concentrates on “the-here-and-now”.
We think this makes a lot of sense given the revelations of science (especially in cosmology, physics, evolution, neuroscience, and psychology) over the past 100 years.
In earlier times, theology was based on either an explicitly or an implicitly fixed or static view of creation and the cosmos. Today, it is becoming ever more obvious that the Universe is a dynamic, evolving, creative and ever-expanding field — one gaining momentum at that!
As spiritual beings having a human experience, we are part of an apparently eternal cosmic-recycling process — albeit one that is at times chaotic and unpredictable. Our “futures” are all but guaranteed. So we need not worry about “being saved” or “attaining enlightenment” (because even that is, by definition, a moving target).
Instead, what we need are ways of finding more fulfillment, joy, and happiness in this and every present moment. Big Love wants to support this by providing the perspectives and tools for living fully — right here and right now! And doing that, we believe, is catching the wave of 21st-century spirituality!
May the corona of your eclipse flame, flare, and glow brightly!

It’s Your Turn!
When we view a total solar eclipse (or an image of it), it’s possible to see the sun’s corona (which is there but not evident to us normally) as well as other “heavenly bodies” (always present, but like the sun’s corona, not normally visible during daylight hours.
In many ways, this is a perfect metaphor for the difference of seeing with our “spiritual eyes” as distinguished from our “physical eyes”. Our spiritual vision allows us to see things that are not normally visible or apparent. One of our purposes in writing these Big Love blogs is to stimulate what we might call “Spiritful Vision”. Consider this blog: in what ways is it helping you see things in new and different ways?
If you’re willing, please share your responses in the comment section under this blogpost as it appears on the Big Love Community Facebook page.

The Big Love beat goes on. If you want to have a look at the Big Love MeetUp group, here’s a link of it: https://www.meetup.com/meetup-group-irzEXJdF/ .
We continue to make progress on “administrative matters”. Yesterday we submitted Big Love’s application to the IRS to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. This is another one of those “Nitty-Gritty” steps in taking care of the business of Big Love!
